Capitalize First Letter

First-letter capitalization gives a piece of text a single capital at its very start. This tool capitalizes the first character of your text and lowercases everything after it, acronyms and later sentences included, which suits short labels, list items, and single phrases rather than paragraphs of several sentences.

Capitalize First Letter rules

  1. The first character of the whole text is capitalized.
  2. Every letter after it is lowercased, including acronyms and the first letters of later sentences and lines.
  3. If the text starts with a space, a number, or punctuation such as a quotation mark, nothing is capitalized.
  4. Spacing and line breaks are kept.

How capitalize first letter differs from sentence case

Capitalize First Letter gives the whole text one capital, at the start, and lowercases the rest. Sentence case capitalizes the start of every sentence and keeps all-caps acronyms on mixed lines, so "the NASA launch. it is today." becomes "The NASA launch. It is today." Try the same text in the Sentence Case Converter.

How to use

  1. Type or paste a phrase or label.

  2. Press Capitalize First Letter to give it one capital at the start. Pasted text converts at once.

  3. Copy the result. For several sentences, use sentence case instead.
